BEST BETS SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 4 @ FLEMINGTON A Loss of $101.50 If we knew that both Flemington and Randwick were going to be genuinely heavy tracks we probably wouldn't have played much last weekend. Very heavy rains ruined the prospects of our two Melbourne based best bets, and in Sydney Parables fell victim to an abnormal surface.
MELBOURNE @ FLEMINGTON Race 5 No. 6 RESPONSE each-way - finished 2nd @ $4.30 / $1.94 (Betfair WAP) Got further back in the field than expected and failed to handle the ground until the 300m when she started to run on. Under pressure to do so but charged late and really caught the eye. Dry ground = wins. "She was not comfortable in the ground but it was a great effort," Craig Williams.
Race 9 No. 3 FANJURA to win - finished 2nd @ $4.36 (Betfair SP) Got back to worse than mid-field but travelled like the winner to the 300m. Just failed to let go on wet ground under this weight but a really good effort. "The weight and the wet didn't help, but he ran well," Dwayne Dunn.
SYDNEY @ RANDWICK Race 4 No. 1 PARABLES to win - finished 3rd @ $2.12 (Betfair SP) Back to the rear of the field as usual but out 3-wide to get closer when the speed dropped mid-race. Ran home OK and tried hard but the pace and the shifty track worked against her. "She ran well but the pace beat her," Tim Clark.
BEST BETS SATURDAY 28th of AUGUST @ CAULFIELD A Profit of $50 We recouped our losses from last week but we could have finished much further in front but for a poor ride in Sydney and a strange run from Salinas. MELBOURNE @ CAULFIELD Race 2 No. 8 SALINAS to win - finished 3rd @ $1.99 (Betfair WAP) In an ideal position mid-race but lost all momentum at the 600m and drifted back to a very awwakrd spot. Recovered and ran on OK but suggest she's looking for more ground now. "Just took too long to get going," jockey Luke Nolen.
SYDNEY @ ROSEHILL Race 1 No. 4 LACADA SIREN each-way - finished 7th @ $6.40 / $1.89 (Betfair WAP) Never closer than 3 wide and even wider when trying to make ground in the straight. Battled on OK considering the run and pilot error was at fault here.
Race 4 No. 2 REWARD FOR EFFORT to win - finished 1st @ $4 (Betfair WAP) Always on the speed and shared the lead until the turn when he exploded clear. Brilliant finish and a different class to this lot. "He's an exciting horse, that was a brilliant win," jockey Nash Rawiller.
BEST BETS SATURDAY 21st of AUGUST @ MOONEE VALLEY A Loss of $50 A bit stiff this week with our two Sydney specials running well below their best. Cristallo ran a bottler at the Valley at a big price to lessen the blow.
MELBOURNE @ MOONEE VALLEY Race 4 No. 9 CRISTALLO each-way - finished 2nd @ $19/$4 Began well and settled in third spot on a strong gallop. Improved to the turn and chased hard into second place but was never going to catch the winner. "Nice run, she kept chasing," jockey Nick Hall.
SYDNEY @ WARWICK FARM Race 6 No. 3 DANLEIGH to win - finished 3rd @ $2.43 (Betfair WAP) Took a mid-field position with cover and improved comfortably to the turn. Was there to win at the 300m but didn't sprint as well as he can and battled into third place. Disappointing considering the run he had. "I thought he'd sprint better," jockey Hugh Bowman.
Race 7 No. 4 BRIGHTEXPECTATIONS each-way - finished 6th @ $11.50 / $3.65 (Betfair WAP) Settled a touch worse than mid-field and was always up against it from that position. Made some ground but never threatened and ran well below his best. "I don't think he's going well enough," jockey Nash Rawiller.
BEST BETS SATURDAY 14th of AUGUST @ CAULFIELD A Profit of $254.75 Another good week thanks largely to Rhythm In Paris, she was a monty once she sneaked into the Cockram field. The form should hold up really well for the next couple of months from this meeting.
MELBOURNE @ CAULFIELD Race 4 No. 1 CRYSTAL LILY to win - finished 2nd @ $1.77 (Betfair SP) Began fairly well and was soon caught wide just off the speed. Improved to the turn and quickened well but got tired over the final 100m and was headed near the line. A good return and will be fitter/better next time. "She doesn't let go the same on a wet track. She needed the run but ran well," jockey Brett Prebble.
Race 7 No. 18 RHYTHM IN PARIS each-way - finished 1st @ $12.50/$3.69 (Betfair WAP&SP) Settled a touch worse than mid-field but the tempo was strong and she ran into the race well on the turn. Finished strongly and had a fitness edge on these. Nice win. "Really nice mare and she's going the right way," jockey Ben Melham.
Race 8 No. 7 CARBON TRADER each-way - finished 8th @ $42/$7.80 (Betfair SP) Began well but was probably ridden too close as a result. Mid-field to the turn but loomed up like he would run into the race, just peaked about 150m from home.
